Sometimes the brief is simple — and the cake design process is where you get to play.
Chocolate cake.
Cars.
No reference images. No detailed direction.
Just a starting point.
And that’s where the work actually begins.
The Idea
This is where the cake design process begins — before anything is baked.
Not to lock the design in place —
but to establish direction.
Movement.
Structure.
A sense of how the piece should feel.
A concept is created for parent approval,
so there’s alignment before the work moves forward.
The Build
Once approved, it moves into production.
For a carved cake, this is where structure start to take shape. Your design concept will be tested here.
Structure is built.
Proportions are adjusted.
Decisions are made in real time.
Not everything looks finished yet —
but the direction is already set.
Working without gluten changes how everything is built.
Structure matters more.
Balance matters more.
Even when it’s meant to feel playful.
The Finish
Then the details come in.
The cake design process becomes visible here, as the structure supports the final look.
Colour.
Texture.
Contrast.
The idea becomes clear.
Not identical to the concept —
but consistent with it.
Because the goal is never to recreate an image perfectly.
